expecting | an indoor maternity portrait: december 2013

We already know the answer to this simple question, but we'll ask it anyway: Is there anything more beautiful than an expectant mother?

flashback

Was looking through some old files for another image and came across this oldie-but-goodie maternity silhouette.

expecting something...

A true sneak peek -- we're not even telling who this is! (Although many of you St. Louisans who read our blog [ps, thanks for reading our blog!] probably already know today's featured fam... More to come in the coming days. Busy, busy week!

Favorite memories from this shoot: a family of three who walked straight through our setup to feed the geese and getting honked at while shooting street-side!

positively radiant

Not going to waste anyone's time with poetry or prose. Hope you enjoy the alternative to 54,000 words as much as we enjoyed shooting them.

... And one on the way

Meet the Bakers, an adorable family of 4 1/2... :) With Lil' Baby Baker on the way, Jaci and Adam came to us by way of John & Chastity, whose pix we've shot a few different times (most recently in March). Like usual, we shot outside and inside their home, including #2 (our fave) which was shot in their unfinished basement (under construction by Adam, himself!).

Photo lesson of the day: don't settle for the norm. Always walk with your eyes, and mind, open. Photos 1 & 4: shot with a 70-200 zoom lens. Photos 2 & 3: shot with a 50mm non-zoom lens.

These are just two of our favorite things...

... Babies-on-the-way and babies-no-more { aka h.s. seniors :) }

So just a quick update and a teeny sneak peek – we're working almost 'round the clock on three recent shoots: Shannon, Jackson and Baby Baker!

I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always

... as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be.
A classic Robert Munsch story. How true a line that is for Baby Girl M, due in November to Valerie and David. We all are anxiously awaiting her debut appearance (and thought we had better get her used to some lights). Heaven knows the camera won't stop flashing once she arrives.

it got a little late

So, here's the unannounced part II of yesterday's post. (It got late during our upload last night, and the interGoogle was playing the oh-so-fun Let's Go as Slow as Possible Game.) I think my favorite is the bottom right image. Pretty fun.

... and one on the way.

"To the one we love so much, we cannot wait to feel your touch. To hear your laughs, to see your smiles, will help us through the many miles..."

someone's having twins...

... and no, it's not us. Becca and I experienced another first this past month: maternity photos. In about an hour-and-a-half, we put together about 50 shots inside and outside of Rachel and Brian's home and had a great time doing it. Yeah, it's always a bit stressful to shoot something you've never done before, but once you get going... And when you have such a great subject (or two... or four, in this case), it all comes together.

All of our inside shots were taken using two Alien Bees (except the silhouette). The outdoor shots shown here were all done with a prime 1.4 (if I remember correctly) ranging from wide open to f/8, no artificial light.
