pre-dawn snowfall over the st. louis temple | december 14, 2013

What a difference 10 minutes can make. When I initially got the camera set up to photograph the St. Louis Temple Saturday morning, the sky was pitch black. The first images were pretty – the trees glowed as they do here, and the flakes were large. Once I thought I had captured the image I had originally envisioned, I moved to a new angle to show more of the building. After 10 minutes, I noticed the sky was starting to gain a little color. And then this happened:

switchfoot in springfield | november 21, 2013

Check out our latest collection of Switchfoot concert images. These were shot at one of the band's final Fading West 2013 tour stops – Springfield, Mo., at the Gillioz Theatre, a cool, old venue with tons of character.

expecting | an indoor maternity portrait: december 2013

We already know the answer to this simple question, but we'll ask it anyway: Is there anything more beautiful than an expectant mother?

It might seem we've been on a posting hiatus of sorts – but it's really only because we've been sharing images on our Instagram of late instead. But these photos of Baby L were just too darn cute for the Instagram square!

Some images just work. Perfectly. In black and white. We love the timelessness it portrays. And what better type of image to convey "forever" than husband and wife? Together. Forever.

fading west in the gateway to the west | {sept. 20, 2013}

Switchfoot's first concert of their fall 2013 tour also marked the debut of their much-anticipated film Fading West, a raw and often emotional look into the Southern California rock band on and off the stage and around the world. Throughout the concert portion of the show, it was pretty clear the guys were having as much fun as their fans on Friday night. "I can't imagine any other night on the entire tour being any better than tonight," Jon said, leading into their final song. No doubt they were feeling a little anxiety and heightened emotion with the show's unconventional format, which led off with the film and continued with a Q&A through the rest of the set.

The end is the beginning. During an acoustic encore, lead vocalist Jon Foreman grabbed a camera from backstage and photographed the sell-out crowd at Missouri Baptist University. If you couldn't tell, we were front and center at the show.  (Hoping Jon's images show up online at some point -- we'll update this post if they do ...)

Giant movie set lights flanked the stage, a nod to the Fading West flick. Unlike the bold LED lights common at other Switchfoot shows, the tungsten lights cast a warm, orange hue on bassist Tim Foreman -- perfect for the laid-back, low-key mood of the night.

Another look at their single-mic, acoustic encore of Hello Hurricane. And, yes, that's an accordion in Jerome Fontamillas' hands:

Perhaps the most unexpected part of the show for fans came during the Q&A, which actually was designed to be an integral part of the concert. On three separate occasions, Jon called up members of the crowd who had submitted questions before the show (on paper strips or via Twitter) to join the guys onstage. Andrew Bushway of the band Stealing Silver had his moment with Drew Shirley and Jon:

You've seen our images. Now go check out a lengthier review on the Land of Broken Hearts website. (And see more photos and videos there, too.)

We've got a long video of the final two songs that we're still trying to hunt down better audio to dub in (and will update it if we get it):

We quickly found out that Baby K does not like to be swaddled. So, she may look like she's fast asleep, but be not fooled. She's just a good actress! #illposeallcuteifyoupromisethisisthelastone

Awwwwwwwww. (Pretty sure no other word can describe it when Baby Kinley sleeps with a smile in Mom's arms.)

After Becca's meetings this year at Westport Plaza, these guys kept the party going well into the night. We slipped out after 14 songs, but rumor has it they played nearly a 30-song set. That's some serious dedication!

HS Senior and Cat
Apparently pets are going to be the theme of this year's senior sessions! We tried to capture a group shot of Britta and her three funny, little, furry friends, but, like her dad said, "It's like herding cats." He wasn't kidding. :) But one at a time is just as good in our book!

"the most exciting two minutes" | a wedding video short

The Kentucky Derby is thought of by many as the "most exciting two minutes in sports." And that might very well be the case judging by the crowd of friends and family at one unique wedding-day/race-day May 4 watch party, derby hats and all (watch it in HD, full-screen to see their expressions).

Congrats to Orb, and an even bigger congrats to the newlyweds, Dave & Denise!

It's been such a busy but rewarding spring so far, and we've been so fortunate to be able to take part in some great and memorable days. Like this one...

Our favorite part of the video comes at the 11-sec. mark. Ahh, serendipity.

Okay, so we hesitate to rave about our own work, but it's hard not to right now – we just love everything about this photo – the door, the house, the steps, the shadows, the highlights. And, above all, the girl. Classic beauty.

hand-off & hold tight | baby cam

Baby sleeping
Father and Son
As we prepared for this sweet sleeping baby photo, Eric and Ola got their little newborn all nice and tired, warm and relaxed. Two quick frames, and Cam's arms and legs popped right up. Going through the images after the shoot was done, his tiny little feet poking up ended up better than the photo with them gently tucked into Mom's hands.

You just never know. Ready, Fire, Aim...
